Dodge Van Crapping Out

Q. Dear Sir: My 1989 Dodge Conversion Van died on the way home from mom's over Easter. It is in another state and we're relying on an unknown mechanic to fix it. The van just quit running. They have changed out the fuel pump and fuel filter.

We have replaced the fuel pressure regulator and shut off switch. Still the van won't start and we don't get any gas from the fuel pump. Do you have any ideas???

Thanks,
Cathy

A. It sounds to me like you have a bad Auto Shut Down (ASD) relay. The ASD Relay controls power to the ignition coil, fuel injectors, and electric fuel pump.

There are five relays mounted on the inside fender next to the battery. The ASD relay is the smaller one located rearmost, just in front of the shock tower.

You should check the fusible links also. The ASD gets it's power from them so if one is bad, the same thing will happen.
