What A Difference An Inch Makes

Q. Hello Vincent, Is there a fee for your services? Please let me know, because I have some questions re: a 2001 Dodge Durango I purchased used from a new car dealer and after having to replace the rear end differential, transmission, and front end power steering (under warranty).

I notice on the new car invoice that the car calls for 16" wheels. When I bought the car, it had 15" wheels and I'm now very skeptical that after the warranty is over, I will continue to have problems.

During the six months I have the car, I have spent almost $600 in rental costs.

I was told by a mechanic that the difference in the wheel size can contribute to the poor mileage I'm getting but that I should go to a tire shop and ask them to tell me the "PLUS 1", which would indicate what negatives the smaller tire would have on a car with my size engine, the large 5.9 V-8.

Thanks much for you response.
Mike

A. The difference in tire size will not only effect your gas milage, but the speedometer accuracy as well. If you want more specific information on the tires you can post in my Forum. There is a tire expert there that can answer all your tire/wheel questions better than I can.

That will be $127,576.42. You can send it to me at your earliest convenience.
