Bonneville SES Light

Q. I have a Pontiac Bonneville SE 1992 automatic transmission and 3.8 liter motor. The problem is that when is cold and I start it, the service engine light and the cooling fans comes, the miles gauge does not function, and the transmission does not respond properly, so I have to shift manually.

After a long time the service engine light comes off and every thing works good. I took with the mechanic and he said is the computer because when the service engine light is on the computer does not send data, but when the service engine light comes off the computer sent data but don't have any record of fail. What do you think about it?

Sorry by the syntax but I don't know a lot of english.
I hope you can help me?

A. I think it is possible that the computer is bad. But before I spend the money to replace it, I would get another mechanic to look at it and make sure. The fact that it's not storing a failure code makes me believe it is the computer.
