Sentra Crankshaft Bolt
Q. Hi Vince, I have a 1986 Nissan Sentra and the timing belt broke, my fault waited to long to change it. I been trying to remove the bolt that holds the crankshaft pulley. I've gotten it to move a couple of turns and now it's stopped it won't go either direction, I can't get it to turn at all. The pulley is loose on the crank now.
I've sprayed the bolt with "Aero kroil' and used a cheater bar on my breaker bar and the bolt still won't turn. What should I do to get the bolt out? How do I keep the crank from turning when I turn the bolt, I've got the brakes set and the car in gear.
Thanks,
RandyA. You do have a problem Randy. I have never had this problem with a Sentra crankshaft bolt before.
All I can suggest is to spray the bolt threads with some CRC 5-56 and let it soak. Then use the big breaker bar to try and work it back and forth and see if it starts to move again. You can really lean on it, the bolt is large enough that the chances of it breaking off are very small. I wish I had some sage words of advice for you, but it's just going to take some work to get it out.
To hold the engine, you can pop the starter out and lock the engine at the flywheel. That will hold the engine while you work on the bolt.
And as if you don't have enough problems, if the belt broke while you were driving, the valves are bent and will need to be replaced. So that means the head will have to come off.
