Camry Sucks Exhaust
Q. Dear Vince, I have a 1990 Toyota Camry 2.0 litre motor, 5 speed, A/C, and P/S. I have read the article and I would like to know if rear door seals could be a problem in sucking in exhaust fumes. I checked the boot seal and looks okay and checked for holes as well. I have taped up the humidity vent on the left hand side of the car and running out of ideas.
Fumes come into the car a lot when the drivers side window is opened. Exhaust has been checked and is okay!!!
Regards,
George
Melbourne, AustraliaA. The Camry has ducting which lets interior air vent to the outside while the car is in motion, make sure it's intact. The plastic duct is located next to the antenna and is accessible through the trunk interior by pulling back the trunk lining on the left side.
When power antennas are serviced on these vehicles the duct has to removed to get at the antenna. Very often these ducts are improperly reinstalled or not installed at all resulting in poor interior ventilation.
