Spark Plug Sockets

Q. I've been changing the spark plugs of many different cars, for years, with a hand-me-down spark plug socket. It fit everything from my Volkswagen pickup to my dad's Oldsmobile - even my lawn mower - so I thought it was one size fits all. Then I tried to change the plugs on my 1991 Honda Civic LX sedan and found that my old reliable socket wouldn't fit.

The plugs are recessed and my socket is too big (the diameter is too wide to fit inside the recess). I don't even know what size my socket is, and I can't seem to find any info on what size I *ought* to use. Can you help?

Erroll

A. Actually, there are two sizes of spark plug sockets, small 5/8" and large 13/16". The plugs in your Honda are the 5/8" plugs so old reliable will just have to move over and make room in the tool box for a new neighbor.
