Amps & Woofers & Jacks, Oh My!
Q. Okay, here's the deal: I have an existing system in my ride with a CD/DVD player with RCA jacks out only. The RCA jacks go to an amp. The amp has stereo RCA in and two channel (L and R) I currently have it wired to 4 speakers (2 each channel in series equaling 8 ohm each side) - see attached image "wiring1.jpg"
FYI: I have pretty good electronics knowledge but am pretty new to dealing with these newer, more complicated car stereo set ups.
I want to add a sub woofer but don't want to buy a new amp - (too much $$$$!) therefore I need to have the sub run off the same amp as the existing speakers. REMINDER: I only have the RCA out of my CD/DVD player, so, I think (?) I have two options:
1. Add the sub woofer to one channel (L or R) and add resistors to the other channel to balance impedance. See attached image "wiring2.jpg"
2. Add the sub woofer to both channels (L and R) in parallel with one of the speakers each channel and isolate using diodes to prevent losing stereo sound through the existing speakers. See attached image "wiring3.jpg"
Let me know what you think and whether or not you have any suggestions.
Muchos Gracias,
FishA.
There was no attachments to your e-mail. And the only thing I understand is the second to last line, "Muchos Gracias", that means "Thank You". Other than that, you lost me right after "Okay, here's the deal".You need to talk to someone who knows automotive electronics. I'm just a dumb mechanic from Joisey. I have to go, my woofer wants his dinner.
