Rover Metro Battery Light

Q. 1988 Rover Metro, 1300cc, manual, mileage 98,000, carbureted, no ABS, rack & pinion steering. My battery light stays on after I have switched the engine off and taken the key out of the ignition. Can you please help with this electrical problem?

A. I'm not sure exactly what a Rover Metro is. I have never heard of them and can only assume it is a European model.

However, since all charging systems are basically the same, I can offer some suggestions. The most likely cause of the light remaining on is the voltage regulator If this vehicle has an external regulator, I would try swapping ot with a new one. If the voltage regulator is built into the alternator, then you will need to replace the alternator.
