Stalling Jetta When Wet

Q. My problem is that when I drive in the rain and go through some water the engine completely shuts down. I have been under the car and the only wiring, that I see, it the oxygen sensor. I have taped this up and have had the engine running and sprayed water all over the underside of the engine however, I have not been able to find anything that could cause the engine to shut down.

The shutdown is of spark going to the plugs I believe.

The engine is multi port fuel injected, I have a distributor which I have changed the rotor, cap, and plugs. Any assistance that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. 1996 Volkswagen Jetta GLS.

Frank

A. You changed the cap, rotor and plugs. So the next thing I would suggest is replacing the ignition wires since that is the most likely cause of the problem.
