Jeep Transmission Pan

Q. I bought a remanufactured transmission about 6 weeks ago. Since the installation by a Jeep dealer I have replaced the pan gasket 3 times. The pan still leaks. I can’t seem to keep the bolts holding the pan in place tight. Please offer some suggestion.

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee
5.2 Liter, V-8
Automatic transmission
172,000 miles

Thanks,
George

A. I've run into this problem with Chrysler transmission pans before. What I do is clean the pan and apply some 3M Weatherstrip cement and glue the gasket to the pan. Then I clean the transmission and bolt holes. I apply another bead of Weatherstrip cement to the top of the gasket and put the pan in place. I coat the bolts with some LockTite and torque the pan bolts to 13 foot pounds.

This always works for me.
