Chevy Caprice Runs Rough, Bogs Down

Q. Dear Mr. Ciulla, Over the last couple of weeks, the car was running very rough and bogging down on acceleration. I took the car into the shop, and the mechanic tells me that I have a bad spark plug wire. Also, he states that the injectors are allowing solid streams of fuel into the throttle body instead of pulsing. He has replaced the cars computer and the throttle body, but the problem persists. Do you have any suggestions?

Chevy Caprice Runs Rough, Bogs Down
  • 1992 Chevy Caprice
  • 305 V-8 Throttle body injection
  • Automatic transmission
  • 6,500 miles on engine, 106,500 miles on car

Thank you...

A. IF it was running very rich from the injectors dripping, the damage may already be done. Could be a clogged catalytic convertor. Has he checked for that? Also what's the fuel pressure? Has anyone put a scanner on it to check the data from the ECM?
