Oldsmobile Alero HVAC Problems

Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero with the 3.4 litre V-6, Automatic, ABS, A/C, cruise control and about 65,000 kilometers. Recently the ventilation system has stopped going into the extreme position of all air out through the dash vents. Additionally, no matter what position, some air is coming out at the foot level vents.

Most of the positions work fine though when rotating the vent selection knob. What could be the cause of this? Is there a controller which has failed? Or is there a ventilator door which has jammed? How can I debug this problem? Does the entire dash have to be taken apart?

Thanks for your help!
Dietmar

A. There could be a rotted vacuum line under the hood that feeds the HVAC system. I would start here first. Something tells me that it may be around the battery but just an educated guess.
