Two Chevy Cavaliers, Two Problems II
Q. Hi Vince, How are you? I have sent you a question in the past and I just wanted to thank you for your response and help, its great to have someone like you to turn to. I for one can't thank you enough. My last question concerned two two chevy cavaliers that we were having problems with. The first is a 1991 Z-24 manual with a 3.1 liter we had replaced the computer, all three coil packs, spark plugs and wires.
It ran perfectly for about a week then it started to shake and jerk and just died and would not restart. After checking for spark and compression. My husband and friend somehow decided the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) needed to be replaced.
Afterwards she started right up and runs great again, we are worried that now that we replaced the computer it will cause a domino effect and go down the line through the sensors etc. What do you think?
Also I had questioned you about a 1994 Chevy Cavalier with an 2.2 liter automatic transmission we had just bought it and the throttle sensor has been unconnected, is it safe to run without it hooked?
Also when we went to replace the spark plugs we found one had oil on it, not caked or dried but almost a drip of fresh oil on the part inside the head.
A closer look reveals a leak of oil I believe from the head itself running right down onto that plug. And there is a gas smell in the oil when checked and each day we have to add a little water and antifreeze, its going somewhere. Any thoughts at all on this?
Thank you again for your help and time,
LindaA.
Domino effect? I wouldn't worry about it. As for the other Cavalier, there may be a leaking valve cover gasket as well as a leaking cylinder head gasket. Why are we driving it with throttle sensor disconnected? If it's bad it should be replaced.
