Ford Mustang GT Pinging Problems
Q. Just bought this car, it seems to be in real good shape, but on occasion when you throttle heavy it pings Sounds like gas ping. I've ran one tank of Texaco 93 octane through. Any suggestions?
- 1994 Ford Mustang GT
- 5.0 liter fuel injected
- Automatic transmission
- 150,000 miles
A. It sounds like the timing is out of adjustment, have the timing checked. If it still gives you a ping, I would run some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas. It is mixed at 4 ounces to 10 gallons of gas. Run the whole tank through it. This may make the engine smoke just a little, but it will clear up as soon as you start on your second tank of gas.
If, after you run the tank of gas with the correct amount of Marvel Mystery Oil through it and it still pings than you may need to change the timing chain and the timing gears.
