Fixing A Ford CVPI Police Car

Q. Vince, I have a 1999 Ford CVPI from the New Mexico State Police. 98,000 miles, 4.6 liter V-8, automatic transmission. Fuel Injection and 4 wheel disc brakes. Runs great. However, I need to "FIX" some of the alterations that the Police mechanics made.

Fixing A Ford CVPI Police Car

1) The High beams, Cruise, and Horn don't work. I found the wires for the High beams and Horn but don't know what they should hook to. Cruise is an unknown. Obviously by looking at the cut wires under the hood, the mechanics removed their light control module and sound module. SO, what do I do to reconnect these systems? I've ordered a Haynes manual. Is this enough to figure it out? Also, I'm an Electrical Engineer.

2) The fuse for the DRL module is missing. What is a DRL module?

3) Disk brake squeak. I replaced the pads which were 65% worn, but I still have bad squeaking. Should I have the discs resurfaced, or just buy new ones? I know the cops hammer the brakes, but will normal driving recondition the discs at all?

Thanks for helping...

A. Try Faxon Auto Literature at 1-800-458-2734 or Faxon Auto Literature they will have all your wiring diagrams you need. They are very low priced. I use them all the time, I have a big collection of wiring diagrams on older trucks.

The State Police puts a switching relay in the line that allows them to blink there head lights with the siren.

The horn and cruise control I believe is just disconnected. Faxon will sell you the original wiring diagrams from Ford They will be all color coded and will even show you the shape of the pug if there is to be one. I will say before you do any more get in touch with Faxon.

The DRL Module is for Day Time Lights. The DRL allows you to have a low beam light on in the day time.

The rotors, calipers and the pads will have to be replaced. The pads will have worn into any of the groves or bad spots on the rotors so to be safe replace the works. You will have to have a repair shop do the bleeding because it will take a special pump to bleed the Anti Lock Brakes This is very important, do not do this yourself.

NO, not any kind of driving will recondition the brakes
