Ford Mustang Cobra Ram Air?

Q. Hello. I have a 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra with a 289 cu in engine, manual transmission, fuel injection, and I was wondering: If I hook up my intake to the two pseudo-air scoops on top of the hood (the holes in the hood are stock for Cobras), how much, if at all, would it increase my speed?

Ford Mustang Cobra Ram Air?

A. If you had a big blower on it it might help it some, but with the stock fuel injection system, all it will do is give you a loud engine. The Cobra is all ready set up to get all the air it needs from the air inlet system that is piped from the front of the car.

Does your car have an electric fan system on the water pump? If it does, this is the place to get more power. A straight fan takes 20 to 30 horse power to operate. A clutch fan takes 15 to 25 horse power to operate. A thermostatic fan takes 10 to 15 horse power to operate. A fully electric fan takes no horse power from the engine since you are already turning the alternator.

So, you could get a lot more horse power by going to an electric cooling fan and this will not interfere with your MPG. It will increase it if anything. These kits can be purchased almost anywhere. They are not sold by application, they are sold by horse power so keep this in mind.
