Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruise Control

Q. Hi, I have a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme cruise control problem. This is a factory electric operated, not vacuum, cruise control unit. The cruise control module, mounts on the left strut, and has a "tape" or "ribbon" that connect to the cable going to the cam on the Throttle Body Assembly (TBA). How do you get the tape to move out about ONE INCH from the cruise control module?

I believe that if I put power to one of the module terminals the motor will turn. Which terminal? I don't want to burn out the board. There is NOT enough adjustment in the cable housing to get what I need.

I just replaced the intake manifold gaskets on a 1996 Olds Cutlass Supreme. Like a dummy I had not yet removed the battery cable when I removed the cruise control cable from the throttle body cam. The cable pulled into the cruise control module. The cable is now too short to connect to the cam at idle.

When connected to the cam it holds the throttle open at about 3,000 rpm. One of the 10 terminals should move the stepper motor. I have the cable off the cam and out of the way at this time. Replacing the intake gaskets was easer then this. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Walt

A. I have never heard of this happening before to one of these cruise units. Make sure it's not wrapped wrong on the cam. Check another unit as well before trying to put juice to it. As far as I know this ribbon will pull out without power applied. Maybe it went in too far past it's stop?
