Door Open

Q. I have a 1994 Mercury Sable V-6 fully loaded. The dome light and door ajar chimes stay on all the time even though the switch is off and the doors are closed. This happened Saturday after I had the oil changed at Express Oil and they sprayed something on my door hinges. May not have anything to do with it, though.

I cannot find a button in the door jam for the lights. I have tried removing the dome light bulb but the chimes still are ringing for the door ajar. Right now I have pulled the fuse for the things to keep from draining my battery. Where do I start troubleshooting this problem?

A. There is a door jamb switch, it is located below the top door hinge. It is possible whatever they sprayed on the hinges is jumping the contacts in the door switch. It's easy enough to pop out and dry off and that should correct the problem.
