Chrysler GS Turbo II Dies, Won't Restart
Q. Hi Vincent! First of all I must excuse my bad english! My name is Mario and I'm from Germany. I drive american cars since my 18th birthday. Now I'm 25 and in this 7 years I had 5 different "US cars". I didn't have a "lucky hand" yet, so all my cars had some problems but no one made me so "undoubtedly" like my 1989 Dodge Daytona Shelby 2.2 Turbo.
It's called Chrysler GS Turbo II here in Germany. It has 5 speed manual transmission, A/C and cruise control. The odometer shows 61,000 miles.
The problem is, that the car sometimes suddenly is stalling. Sometimes I can restart it immediately, sometimes it needs minutes, hours or even days until I can start it again. The engine turns but won't start. I hear the fuel pump every time I turn the key, but after three tests I don't hear it anymore.
I'm a mechanical "idiot" so I don't have any idea what the problem could be. The Daytona is in my garage, because I drive a 1991 Chevy Camaro at the moment! But now the winter is coming so I must change cars and I must fix this problem soon, because I must have a "daily driver".
It is very expensive to drive a "US car" here in Germany and I can't afford to pay taxes, insurance for two cars. One costs me about 1500 EURO a year without gas, just taxes and insurance! Please help me ! If you need any further information just let me know!
I've already read a lot of your tips, also those with the "ASD-relay". Where can I find it? Do you have a picture?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards from Germany (Bavaria),
MarioA. There are a number of things that can cause this problem. But I think you may be on the right track with the ASD Relay.
I would first try to determine if it is a fuel or ignition problem. When it won't start, shoot some carburetor cleaner into the intake manifold and try to start it. If it starts and runs as long as the carburetor cleaner lasts, then you know it's a fuel problem.
