Ford Taurus Won't Go Into Gear
Q. Subject car won't engage when you shift to DRIVE until you back and forth from REVERSE to DRIVE a number of times. It then travels at 'half power' meaning the revs don't match the speed. Even then it is prone to 'slipping'. It suddenly renders itself 'free' and races the engine. Sometimes it disengages when you stop at lights. It has now reached annoying levels.
I have had a hydraulic oil change and put a new filter as well. Please advise.

A. It sounds like the valve body is leaking by. And if it did leak it would lose its ability to pull, so this would throw it in neutral. The only remedy at this point is to rebuild the transmission completely. Also I would check the positioning switch on the engine, it will some times make it seem like a loss of power.
