Nissan Pathfinder Low Fuel Light
Q. Vincent, Great Web site! I recently bought a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder SE, with 90,000 miles, 5-Speed, Fuel Injection, P/S, A/C, and cruise. Everything appears okay and it operates just fine. The only problem is the low fuel light is on all the time; even after a fill-up. It does not have an owner's manual, so I called the nearest dealer and they ordered me a manual for $25.00.
The service department said the sensor is in the gas tank, of course, and it would take 2½ to 3 hours to drop the tank just to get to the sensor to check it out. They said this would cost from $200.00 to $300.00 to fix. I'm guessing even more, if they got there hands on it.
Is there any other affordable and effective way, like disconnecting fuses or disconnecting the warning light bulb or anything, really, since I really don't need that warning light since it does have a well-functioning gas level gauge?
Also, what are the books you use on your site to show pictures and answer questions? I want one for a 1996 Pathfinder.
Again, great site!
PatrickA. Probably the easiest way to get rid of that light is to pull the instrument cluster and remove the bulb. But if you sell the vehicle you have to let the new owner know about that or they might get stranded.
You can buy a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder Service Manual at your Nissan Dealers parts department. That will be the same exact manual used in the service department.
