Ford Windstar ABS Light On
Q. Hi, I have this problem with the ABS dash light of my 1995 Ford Windstar. When I turn the key the ABS light lights up and then turn off like it should. Sometime after I drive several miles and apply the brakes the ABS light comes on and stay on until I shut the ignition switch off. when I start up again everything is all right then after several stops the ABS light stays on again. Can you help?
A.
When the ABS light comes on, the Antilock Brake Control Module (ABCM) has detected a fault in the ABS system. Most faults that occur in the ABS will be stored as a coded number in the Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) of the ABCM.This means that once a code is stored, it will be retained by the antilock brake control module even with the key in the OFF position. The codes can be retrieved by performing the On-Board Diagnostics.
There is no way to obtain the codes without a scan tool. And with so many possibilities I can't even offer a possibility. One thing you can do is check all the connectors and wiring for the wheel speed sensors and make sure they are good.
Once you have the code number, we can go from there.
