Honda Trannys Have Problems?

Q. Vincent, First off I love the site, keep up the great work. I have a question in regards to my 1999 V-6 Honda Accord Coupe. Recently my father told me that a Honda mechanic specialist told him that there is a serious problem with some V-6 Honda Accords models late 90's to early 2000's having automatic transmission problems.

Have you heard of this, or is this just another story blown out of proportion? This mechanic (not at a Honda dealership) told my father he has had several people needing transmission replacements costing $5,000.00. Is this something I need to be concerned about?

My car info:
1999 Honda Accord Coupe EX V-6 (fully loaded)
Automatic Transmission
61,000 miles

Thanks for taking the time,
Shane

A. I don't know of any specific problems with the late model Honda transmissions. I know the 1999 and 2000 Hondas had a problem with some of their torque converters. But nothing really serious. I'll nose around and see if I can find out anything more and let you know.
