I just had the alternator, and battery put in because they were bad. I also put in new plug wires about six months ago. Any ideas? Hopefully its an easy fix.
Honda Accord Idle Problem
Q. I have a 1988 Honda Accord LX-i, I believe it is a 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder. It's a 5 speed, and fuel injected. The problem I am having is that every time I let off the gas (take it out of gear) or rev the engine the idle drops almost to the point that it is going to stall, then goes to a normal idle.

A. Two things come to mind here, a possible bad EACV or a sticking EGR valve.
The idle speed of the engine is controlled by the Electronic Air Control Valve (EACV) and the Fast Idle Valve. The valve changes the amount of air bypassing into the intake manifold in response to electric current sent from the ECU. When the EACV is activated, the valve opens to maintain the proper idle speed.
After the engine starts, the EACV opens for a certain time. The amount of air is increased to raise the idle speed about 150-250 rpm. When the coolant temperature is low, the EACV is opened to obtain the proper fast idle speed. The amount of bypassed air is thus controlled in relation to the coolant temperature. When the coolant temperature is below 500C (1220F), the fast idle valve opens to prevent the idle speed from dropping.
usually what happens is the EACV gets dirty and the passages start to close or are blocked completely. A good cleaning with carburetor cleaner will usually fix this.
If the EGR is sticking it will close slowly and cause a momentary drop in idle speed until it fully closes. I haven't had too much cleaning them and usually just replace them.
