Cadillac Eldorado Drive Chain
Q. I have the transmission of a 1972 Cadillac Eldorado out of the car, and am giving it a going through, even though it worked fine just because it is out. One question I have is the play in the big drive chain. The original Cadillac factory manual has no spec on this, and just says to inspect the chain for wear and broken links.
I can move the center of the span about one inch. Do you know if this is okay?
A. Press the chain together in the middle. Measure from inside to inside on the center links. If the distance is less than 4-3/8", replacement is recommended. A new chain should measure 4-3/4" at this point.
