Chevy Corsica Rough Gear Shifting Q. Hello, my question is on a 1996 Chevy Corsica with a gearshift problem. Sometimes when shifting into or out of PARK, it gets rough and doesn't want to go. What could this be? And is it a serious problem? Gearshift has safety button, which links to the brakes. 1996 Chevy Corsica 2.2 liter engine Automatic transmission 142,000 miles

A. It could be a weak solenoid for the brake interlock, a bad shifter cable or it's kinked. Has anyone spilled soft drink or coffee on the shifter? This would act like glue to the plastic sliding mechanism.
