Ford Explorer Transmission Died

Q. I have a 1991 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition 4.0 liter automatic transmission and 159,000 miles. This is the second transmission. I was driving down the road one day, was going fine then all of a sudden it was like it slipped into neutral and wouldn't move at all no warning signs nothing. The fluid is full, still red and does not smell burnt.

Ford Explorer Transmission Died

Can not take for a road test because, as I said, will not move now in any gear. What could be the problem? Please help.

Thanks,
April

A. You have the A4LD automatic transmission in that vehicle. If it was rebuilt by an independent transmission shop, it is very possible that certain modifications, as prescribed by Ford, were not done, resulting in an inoperative transmission.

At any rate you should have a Ford dealer look at it for a possible rebuild, or better yet, with a Ford remanufactured unit.
