MB Power Window Replacement
Q. Dear Vincent, I have a 2000 Mercedes Benz ML320 with 52,000 miles always serviced at the dealer. I have power everything, but the warranty expired two months ago, and the power window on the driver side doesn't move. I was rolling up the window when I heard a popping noise coming from inside the door, like a cable or something metallic broke.
I took the vehicle to the dealer and they told me it was the actuator. The part is only $80.00 or so, but the labor is like over $200.00. I feel confident I can fix it myself, but I need instructions and/or pictures or drawings on how to disassemble the door panel and replace the actuator. Can you help me? Thank you very much in advance, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
VictorA. I think you mean regulator, not actuator. One thing to remember is to be very careful when you remove certain parts. I have a plastic wedge (MB P/N 110 589 03 59 00) that makes removing certain parts much easier. If you want to do this, rub over to the dealer and pick one up. It is a good investment, you'll use it often. This also requires the removal of the side airbag and the drilling and replacing of rivets. Because of the airbag, I would urge you to consider allowing the dealer to do it since there is the possibility of the airbag deploying.
- Remove the door handle (2) cover by prying off at the bottom with the wedge.
- Remove the screws. (3)
- Unclip the SRS badge and remove the screw. (10)
- Remove cover (4) with wedge.
- Pry door liner (1) off of the inner door panel at bottom, front and rear by positioning the wedge directly next to each clip. (5)
- Lift door liner up and out.
- Unhook control cable (6) from door interior actuating mechanism.
- Remove the entry lamp. (9)
- Pull down door liner.
- Check the sheet metal clip nuts (7) and replace any broken ones.
- Also check the door foil (8) on the inner door panel and the clips (5) on the door. Replace any broken ones.
- Reverse order to reinstall.

To get the regulator (1) out first remove the window motor. Then drill out the ten rivets. (Arrows) Slide the window regulator out, install the new one and replace the rivets and window motor.
