Maxima Power Windows

Q. Vince, I can't seem to get any Forum ideas/feedback on my problem. Is there any chance you might take a stab at it? I'm really stumped, and would appreciate a lead, better yet, maybe you've seen or heard of this problem before.

Here's what I posted to the web site Forum:
"My 1990 Maxima just developed a "twitch" in the power windows. All three NON-driver windows will go DOWN with the Driver Side Master Switch, but not up. Each of the three operate properly from their respective, individual switches. The driver's window also operates properly from the Master Control Switch. But the "up" command fails to ALL three of the other windows from the driver's Master Control Switch. This does not sound like a broken wire to me, and I've even done a preliminary (unsuccessful) search for same. ANY thoughts or ideas would be sincerely appreciated."

Since posting the above, I have completely dismantled the Driver Side Master Control Switch, and see nothing whatsoever visibly wrong with it, e.g., no broken wires, no burned wires, no blackened areas on the circuit board. I do not have a wiring schematic, my Haynes Manual is virtually silent on the problem, and I don't have enough documentation to know where to start on continuity checking, etc.

I looked diligently for ANY evidence of a broken wire in the door jam, by holding the UP switch and wiggling/moving wires. Nothing. Nary a burp.

Moreover, it doesn't seem logical to me that ONE wire would carry the UP signal through the driver's door jam wiring harness to THREE windows. Neither does it sound likely that THREE wires would break at the SAME time in the harness.

I don't know where to turn next . . . No, I'd drive with the windows down before I'd take it to a dealer. (^_^)

Thanks.

A. The short answer is the Main Power Window Switch itself is bad. This is a common problem with that car. I have a switch in my tool box that I use for testing and nine times out of ten that's what it was.
