Volkswagen Golf Stubborn Start
Q. My auto is a 1989 Volkswagen Golf GTI and I'm having problems starting it when the motor is cool or hasn't been started for the day. It takes about five cranks to even get the motor to try to start and after that it still takes like five more to make the car stay running. When you first start to drive it keeps dying until the motor is warmed up.
I recently changed the plugs, distributor cap and rotor. The problem has been there for a long time and is getting harder to start now. Please give me some advice on what it may be.
Thank you,
FrankA. It sounds like a fuel problem. I would try replacing the fuel filter. If that doesn't do it, you will need to do a fuel pressure test to see what the fuel pump is doing.
