Cavalier Fuel Pump Module

Q. Greetings, Vince - The Fuel Pump Module Assembly just failed in my 1996 2.2 liter Chevy Cavalier with 75,000 miles. Is this normal or did I do something to cause the failure, which cost almost $700.00 to fix?

Also, During a recent trip to my mechanic, I was informed of a small head gasket leak. I understand that this is a common problem on GM "J-body" vehicles, yet they have never issued a recall campaign or TSB on the defect. My question is, since the leak is small, will a bottle of Prestone Super Sealer serve as a quick fix to delay the inevitable, a $500.00 repair job? The cooling system was just flushed and refilled with the orange Dexcool antifreeze.

Thanks Vince!
Steve

A. Well Steve, unless you beat it with a hammer or used it for target practice or threw it at someone, I don't see what you could have done to make it go bad. It is not normal that they go bad so soon, but it is not unheard of either.

You can try it, if it works, you bought yourself some time. If it doesn't, you're no worse of. I say give it a shot.
