Isuzu Amigo Can't Get Out Of PARK

Q. Hey Vincent, I have a 1999 Isuzu Amigo, 2WD, automatic transmission. Recently, when I turn the key and start it, it won't shift out of park, but if I turn the key back one I can shift like crazy. I have to hold the button on my shifter, then start the car and shift out. Do you have any idea what might cause this?

Isuzu Amigo Can't Get Out Of PARK

I was thinking it might be electrical since everything else is working fine except when I turn on my headlights my left turn blinker light comes on and remains steady (no blinking). Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!
Marco

A. The Shift Interlock system used to be easy to troubleshoot. There is a switch, usually incorporated into the brake light switch, and sometimes a separate switch on the brake pedal that sends a signal to the Shift Interlock Control Module that in turn powers a solenoid in the console to unlock the shifter.

The only three things you can check are the Shift Interlock fuse, make sure it is good, brake pedal switch, make sure that it is open when the brake pedal is up and closed when the brake pedal is depressed, and the solenoid, make sure it is getting power when the brake pedal is depressed.
