Mercedes Benz 190E Stalling At Stops

Q. Mr. Ciulla, Nice Meet you. I have a 1987 Mercedes Benz 190E with a 2.3 liter engine, automatic transmission and has 103,000 miles. It is fuel injected and has cruise control. This engine idles rough. Sometimes when it is in first gear and I brake fast it will stall. Also, the engine pings a little bit. Are these related and can a do-it yourself mechanic fix these problems?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
Adam

Mercedes Benz 190E Stalling At Stops

A. About all you can do is give the throttle chamber and Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) a good cleaning. Check the distributor cap, rotor and ignition wires. Also check for vacuum leaks.

Other than that, there is a problem with the Lambda control system and your Mercedes Benz dealer will have to check the system with their Lambda Tester. There could also be a problem with the fuel distributor and/or injectors.
