Chevy Suburban Auto-Locking Hubs

Q. My daughter has a 1992 Chevy Suburban 4x4 with a 5.7 liter, automatic transmission, P/S, A/C and 158,000 miles. A few weeks back I drove it one day and it felt like the hubs were shifting in and out of 4-wheel drive. Now she says the 4-wheel drive doesn't work. You can still feel the transfer case shifting in, but not the hubs.

Also, the 4x4 light is not coming on. I'm from the old school of manual hubs and don't have a clue how these work! Are they electrically shifted in? Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!
Rick

A. I'm guessing this is the old style 4x4 system with the auto locking hubs? They tend to gum up and stick once in a while. They can be removed and cleaned up or just get a new set of hubs. There should be 6 Torx head screws holding them on.
