Lexus SC400 Brake Vibrations
Q. I have a 1993 Lexus SC400 and need your help diagnosing a problem. When braking, the car begins to shake. The problem doesn't always occur but seems to become more frequent after driving for awhile. I've recently put new rotors on all four wheels but the problem persists. Is there something else that could be causing the car to shake during braking, aside from warped rotors?
Rotors recently replaced but didn't solve the problem. Ongoing problem for the past year. I've also replaced the shocks and tires over the last six months, but problem was present before and after. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
CraigA. This car is very sensitive to brake rotor runout. The maximum allowed runout is only 0.002", a very small amount indeed. It is recommended by Lexus that the front rotors be resurfaced while on the car to insure the runout is within specs.
If you have access to a dial indicator, it is easy enough to check.
