Nissan Sentra Exhaust Gaskets

Q. Hi Vincent, I had my 1994 Nissan Sentra, automatic transmission, 1.8 litre's exhaust replaced at a major muffler franchise three months ago. Since then I have had the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe replaced three times (four gaskets total). They last about three to four weeks before they "burn up".

I did notice there is a bracket near the exhaust manifold which appears to have had an extension on it at one time. Broken? Removed? Is there possibly a support that should be there to support the exhaust connection point?

Thanks for your help,
Ken

A. That is precisely why the exhaust pipe gasket keeps blowing out. That bracket supports the exhaust manifold/exhaust pipe connection and keeps it from moving. I would go over to the Nissan dealer and pick up a new bracket and gasket and put it on or have a shop put it on.

BTW, it's either a 1.6 or 2.0 litre engine. There was no 1.8.
