Topaz Power Windows

Q. When I bought my used Topaz, the passenger side window was up and wouldn't come down. It didn't come with a manual so I don't know much about it. A few days later I put the drivers side window down and it wouldn't go back up.

It was working fine until then. The next day it started working again. Can you help me? Also the passenger side window hasn't worked at all since I got it.

1990 Mercury Topaz
4 cylinder
Automatic transmission
51,000 miles
Cruise control
Power windows

Thank You,
Double trouble

A. Okay, this is what you need to do to determine where the problem is. Sit in the car with the key on and the door open so the dome light is on. Press the drivers side power window switch and watch the dome light. If it dims, you have a bad motor. if it doesn't, then it's a bad switch or wiring. Do the same thong for the passenger side using the switch on the drivers side and passenger side.

I suspect it is the master switch in the drivers door that is bad.
