Ford Escape Soft Brake Pedal?

Q. Hello, I have a 2003 Ford Escape with 3,700 miles on it. The brakes feel very soft to me. It feels like I have to push the pedal to the floor. The rotors have fine grooves on them, with the drivers side worse than the passenger. The brakes tend to creak when I come to a complete stop. There is excess brake dust on the wheel rims.

Ford Escape Soft Brake Pedal?

I have taken it to the dealer and he said the brakes are normal. Should there be fine grooves on the rotors already?? Why do the brakes not feel firm?? Help!

Thank you,
Heather

A. Lines on the rotors are normal. They are caused by the metal that is in the brake pads.

I have only driven a few Ford Escapes and the brakes didn't feel unusually soft to me. Of course this doesn't mean you don't have a problem.

There are only a few things that can cause a low or spongy brake pedal. Such as a low brake fluid level, air in the brake hydraulic system, a bad brake master cylinder or mis-adjusted brake shoes.

In addition to having your Dealer check these things, drive a couple of other Ford Escapes and see if they all feel the same. This will tell you if this is normal for this vehicle or not.
