Ford Taurus Constantly Sputtering
Q. I have a 1994 Ford Taurus 3.8 liter. It is giving me some problems. It is sputtering when I drive it. It also has a sputter while idling. The car sputters a lot. It has done this for over a year while on the highways, but has progressed into a constant sputter now especially when I use the gas pedal. I had a tune up done two years ago.
I wanted to check the PCV but don't know where it is located. I also checked the department where my manual says is the air filter, and there was no filter at all in there. Is there suppose to be?
I appreciate all the help you can give me!
A. It sounds like you just need a good tune-up for starters. Spark plugs, ignition wires, air and fuel filters would go a long way in helping get rid of this problem.
The air filter is located in the air filter housing (5). You need to remove the screws and undo the clips that hold the cover on and replace the air filter. If there is, indeed, no air filter there, put one in as soon as possible.
The fuel filter is located under the car near the rear.
The PCV Valve is in the right valve cover, towards the back of the engine.
