Aftermarket Cruise Control

Q. I installed an Audiovox CCS-100 cruise control on a 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup with a 4 cylinder engine. I also installed a vacuum reservoir. I cannot get the cruise control to operate beyond 57 miles per hour.

I have contacted Audiovox support but they have been of no help. I am using the magnet kit on the drive shaft and have connected to the tach in the instrument cluster. Do you have any suggestions or is it that this model of cruise control will not work on this vehicle?

Thanks

A. I wish I could help you with this, but I have no experience with installing an aftermarket cruise control nor am I familiar with the unit you installed. My experience with aftermarket cruise control units is that they do not work very well in general.

If I had to take a guess, I would think that there should be a check valve between your vacuum source and the vacuum tank. Also the vacuum tank you are using may be too small.

From Terence P. who had the same problem:
This happened to me with the same exact kit. According to Audiovox (recently, I had the same problem- 60 MPH max) set the PPM setting to the next highest setting and it should work fine. For using the magnetic pickup kit and rear wheel drive (using one magnet on the driveshaft) it was probably set on 2000 PPM (as the book recommended). Set it to 4000 PPM (dip switch one in the servo set to ON) and it will hold well beyond 57 MPH.
