Chevy Suburban Water Pump Removal

Q. Hi, I have an 1989 Chevy Suburban, 5.7 litre, 4WD, 166,464 miles. All stock, original equipment. My water pump is leaking and I would like to know the trick to removing the shroud, and fan. There is a clutch(?) and silver disc over the fan bolts. Have removed and replaced the four bolts holding the shroud and looked in at the fan.

What's the trick for easily removing and replacing the fan after the shroud is off? I plan on changing the pump with out removing the radiator. Also, it appears the oil cooler(?) or A/C has fittings going in and out of the radiator, what are these called, so I can put feelers out at salvage yards for a replacement? Any tips and tricks for R&R of the water pump will be appreciated.

Thanks much,
Mark

A. If I'm reading this correctly, you said a 1989 right? This should be a piece of cake!! Remove the four nuts from the fan clutch studs. The clutch/fan may be stuck/frozen onto the tip of the pump. Drive a thin blade putty knife between the joint to get them separated. Then the pulley will come off. Fan shroud should be a two piece and bolts on both sides and along the front of radiator support to get it off. Then the four bolts hold the pump to block. EASY!!
