BMW Halogen Bulb Replacement
Q. Hi Vince, I have a burned out low beam halogen lamp on my 1999 BMW 740i. My question is, can I replace the low beam bulb with a Phillips brand after market halogen bulb that give out a blue tint, and is much brighter than the OEM bulbs? The car has over 50,000 miles and out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty period.
Do you or can you direct me to any online manual with directions of how to replace the burned out bulb myself, either with the OEM bulb or the Phillips after market bulb.
Regards,
BillA. If you are considering replacing the Halogen bulbs with Xenon bulbs, you can't do it. The Xenon bulbs work on a much higher voltage and need to be "pulsed" to start working.
You have to replace Halogen with Halogen, regardless of brand, and Xenon with Xenon.
To replace the headlight bulb:
- Press down clip and remove bulb cover
- Remove connector from light bulb
- disconnect wire spring clip and remove light bulb.
- Install in reverse order.
CAUTION!
Do not take hold of glass part of bulb with bare fingers. Only take hold of bulb on base or with a clean cloth or packaging of light bulb.
