Ford Escort Check Engine Light
Q. I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX-2 manual transmission, with about 75,000 miles. The Check Engine Light (CEL) came on and it was feeling like I was letting off the gas when I was actually pressing on the gas peddle. I took it to the auto parts store where they hooked it up to a scanner. They told me that the fourth cylinder was not firing correctly and to check the plugs and wires.
We replaced the wires and it runs 10 times better, until I reach about 65 or 70 mph. It starts to act like it is cutting out or decelerating. Do you know what it could be? I have been told that it could be the Throttle Position Sensor.
Thanks...
A. It could be a bad TPS, or one of a number of other things. Without the original DTC I can't offer you more than that.
