Brake Thud

Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 1997 Cavalier, 2.2 liter, automatic transmission, 100,000 km on it and with ABS. This is the problem, whenever I step on the brakes to stop, and I release the brakes just before the car comes to a complete stop, I would hear a "thud" coming from the rear of the car.

The sound would come on just after I release the brakes. The dealer has looked into the suspension and brakes and found nothing wrong with both. This happens when the vehicle is hot. The more I stop and go the more the sound comes out. Hope you can help with this one.

Thanks,
James

A. Take it back to the dealer and have them check bulletin Number 73-50-18 issued January, 1998. It dealt with a parking brake cable causing the rear brakes to over heat and make noise. This may be the problem you are having.
