Chevy Beretta Rocking When Starting Q. My son has a 1996 Chevy Beretta and seems when started, the engine rocks. And when giving it gas, it dies out. Any ideas before taking to a shop? Thank you, Jim

So then I replaced the alternator, still the same problem. Now when I start the engine it revs up high and then comes back down to normal idle. When I come to a stop light the engine loses power and when I accelerate it goes back up to normal again.

Could there be a short in the starter? When I turn my engine off it will not turn over again until I leave it set for about five minutes and the battery is making some sounds that are rather scary, likes it's overheating or something. Please help before I start putting more money into this thing.

A. "Rocks"? It could be bad engine mounts. Maybe you're loosing spark or fuel. You were kind of vague about what's happening.
