Chevrolet 1-Ton with a Duel Fuel Engine

Q. Hi, I have a 1978 Chevrolet 1 ton with a 454 motor. This is a duel fuel engine (gas or propane). Doesn't want to start using gas but will start fine using propane. After starting on propane and then switching to gas it runs fine and if shut off will restart on gas. I don`t know how long it must be shut off before failing to start on gas. Can a fuel pump fail when cold and work fine after the engine is running? Any ideas?

A. This is a tough one! Usually there are a couple of shops in any given area that are certified to install propane conversions on state vehicles or fleet cars. I would look into this in your area to see if someone can give you any info on this. I wouldn't recommend poking around on this engine because of the propane with all it's plumbing, valves etc.

I can't help much since this is not a factory system and I do not know how the conversion was done.
