1990 Pontiac Fiero
Q. Hi, I have a 1990 Pontiac Fiero. It came with a 3.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. I have this damn oil leak and I cannot seem to figure out how to get rid of it. What gaskets usually leak on these things. I've had it since 1998 and I really like it but I don't know what I should do because that oil leak really annoy's me.
I am always having to mop it up whenever I leave it in the garage for a while. Do you think I should sell it or keep it?
Thanks!!!
AlexA. My personal opinion has been that the Fiero has been an unsafe car that should have never been built. But there are some kids out there who think the Pontiac Fiero was the greatest car ever built. But they are entitled to their opinion as I am entitled to mine.
My experience as an instructor at a GM training center in New Jersey and conversations I have had with several GM engineers have brought me to this opinion. I also have personally seen four Fieros that have burnt up. That and the 17 people killed in Fiero engine fires. One dead was an 18 month old baby.
Autoweek did an extensive article detailing the many defects built into the Fiero.
I can't tell you anything of the particular Fiero you say you have since there was no 1990 Pontiac Fiero and no production Fiero ever came with a 3.4 liter 4 cylinder. In fact, the 3.4 liter engine was a V-6, not a 4 cylonder. The 3.4 liter engine was not introduced until 1991, three years after the last Fiero was built, where it was used in Chevrolet, Pontiac and Oldsmobile passenger cars.
