Trunk Won't Open

Q. Is there any way to open a trunk whose lock will no longer turn with the key? The mechanic will do it for $100.00, and I would rather do it myself if possible. The car is a 1996 Chevy Corsica 4-door V-6.

Any help would be appreciated.

A. The way I used to do it is to open the trunk from the inside when I can. HUH? How can I open the trunk from the inside if I can't open the trunk?

On most cars if you take out the back seat, you can get into the trunk through there. At the very least you may be able to get a long screwdriver in to pop the trunk latch open. One the trunk lid is open, you can repair or replace the latch or lock.

You'll need a flashlight, a screwdriver and a little bit of luck, but most times it does work. If not, you'll need to drill the old lock out.
