Shift Lock And Brake Lights

Q. I'm having an electrical problem with my 1992 Geo Prizm. The shifter lock doesn't disengage when the brake pedal is pushed and the brake lights don't light up with the headlights turned on. The brake lights work with headlights off. Both problems started at the same time.

Its an automatic transmission, fuel injection, no ABS, PS- AC, no cruise control. I'd appreciate any help you could give.

A. If the brake lights don't work with the headlights on, but work with them off, you may have a wrong type bulb installed in the brake lights or tail lights. If you have the correct bulbs installed, then there is a short in the brake/tail light circuit that has to be traced down and repaired.
