Nissan Hardbody Blows Fuse In Drive

Q. Hello Vincent, my name is Jerry and I have a question for you. I have a 1989 Nissan D21 Hardbody 4WD. It has A/C, P/S, cruise control, tilt, everything. The problem I'm having is every time I put the transmission in drive it blows a fuse. It does not do it in P, R, N, 2 or 1, only in drive with or without the power button on or off.

I lose the temperature gauge, fuel, amp and blinkers. And when I'm driving down the road and I let up on the accelerator it kicks the transmission out of overdrive but the second I accelerate it shifts back into OD.

I messed around with some ground wires under the hood one day and it seemed to help for about 15 minutes and then all of a sudden it was right back to the same old thing.

It is very frustrating. If you have any ideas that I might be able to try I would greatly appreciate it very much. I will be eagerly waiting for your response.

Sincerely,
Jerry

A. The first thing I would do is start the truck and then unplug the inhibitor switch and see what happens. If the fuse doesn't blow, you have a bad inhibitor switch.

If it should still blow, I would check all the bulbs for the turn signals, front and back, and the brake lights.

The Inhibitor Switch Connector is on the right hand side of the engine compartment. Just follow the harness from the Inhibitor Switch to the connector.
